The Network against Female Genital Cutting Switzerland operates an information portal on FGM/C, gives advice and support to both people affected by it and professionals, engages in prevention work in the communities concerned, raises awareness among professionals and develops regional contact points. The Network promotes networking and ensures low-threshold access to information.
As a result of the Federal Council’s decision in the autumn of 2015 to strengthen Switzerland’s engagement in combating FGM/C, the Federal Office of Public Health (FOPA) and the State Secretariat for Migration (SEM) commissioned the project 'Measures against Female Genital Mutilation, FGM, 2016 – 2019'. Caritas Switzerland, TERRE DES FEMMES Switzerland (TDF), the Swiss Centre of Expertise in Human Rights (SCHR) and SEXUAL HEALTH Switzerland (SHCH) formed an alliance for this purpose. Its aim is to protect girls and women from female genital cutting and to ensure medical care for those who have been subjected to it.
